Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre

UTHEO Ltd. is a dynamic community based organisation, operating as a recognised Scottish Charity (No: SC021687) and Company Limited by Guarantee (Reg Coy No: 145454) for the benefit of people living in the Orbiston and Bellshill area of North Lanarkshire.

The company was established in 1993 by a group of like-minded local people from two local Church of Scotland congregations to address the problems of social exclusion
and deprivation experienced by people of all ages amongst
the community. UTHEO opened the Orbiston
Neighbourhood Centre in 1995 to provide a range of
different services and initiatives within the local community.

The long-term success of the organisation has been due
to the hard work and commitment of all the people
involved. A Board of Directors, over 70 volunteers and
20 staff, almost all of who are residents of the local
area, operates the Neighbourhood Centre. The Centre
caters for over 1000 users each week from the
local area, and the organisation has developed
relationships with other groups, partners and funders
who have supported its work over the years and
allowed the organisation to provide the services and
facilities it offers. Everyone involved has worked
tirelessly to help UTHEO achieve its goals and create an environment where people are welcomed and
encouraged to fulfil their potential and our aim is “to
bring together the people of Orbiston and surrounding
areas in a bid to combat the injustices of poverty,
isolation and intolerance” to be “a place for people, a
centre for all” (mission statement).
