December 2008:
The Big Lottery Fund has awarded BeFriend in Bellshill funding, which secures it's future for the next 5 years. This, along with previously promised funding from the Church of Scotland Parish Development Fund, should be seen by everyone as a huge recognition of the work being done by all our vollunteers. more...
November 2008:
A new Volunteer Co-ordinator has been assigned from within the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre, Louise Smith, previously our IT Trainer will be taking over the duties of Volunteer Co-ordinator from this time onward, contact details can be found in the Volunteers section of the Services and Activities web page.

September 2008:

Job Vacancy - Volunteer Coordinator

We are looking for a dynamic and creative person to sustain and develop our volunteer project. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for someone with first class communication skills and experience of good practice and the support, training and motivation of volunteers. Candidates should have the ability to deliver project outcomes and develop partnerships within a community setting and be educated to a higher standard (e.g. HNC) or have other appropriate qualifications or experience. BeFriend in Bellshill will be celebrating it's second birthday on Friday 3rd of October. We will be celebrating with an American style Breakfast at 10.00am in Theo's Cafe in the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre.

July 2008:

May 2008:
The 1st Bellshill & Mossend Souts Group are now meeting at the centre on a Friday evening 7..00pm - 9.00pm.

The Lanarkshire Carer's Centre are running a number of health initiatives from the center including smoking cessation classes, Braveheart clinic and baby massage and weaning classes. For more information about tese please phone the centre.

Routes to Work are based at the centre on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons and all day on a Wednesday to assist with compiling a CV - specialist help will be provided with interview skills and up to date list of jobs will be provided.

Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre will have a stand at the forthcoming Bellshill Street Fayre on 24th May where staff and volunteers will be on hand to meet people and tell them about our work.

Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre will be participating in the North Lanarkshire Open Doors event 2008 on Saturday 13th September from 11.00am - 3.00pm. The event will be to promote the history of the local area, Orbiston Parish Church and how it's building has been adapted to accommodate the work of the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre; which sits at the heart of Orbiston for the benefit of local people. There will also be games and activities for all the family, some of which will have health or environmental themes.

March 2008:
We are pleased to anounce Theo's Cafe has been awarded a 3 star rating this month.
May 24th 2007:
Play Area Ribbon Cutting from 3.00pm - 5.00pm. Bring the Kids, it is for them after all.
December 13th 2006:
Theos Christmas Lunch from 12.00 to 2.00pm. Book early to avoid disappointment see a member of staff for a form.

April 12th 2007:
Braveheart Health Initiative, The nurses from the
‘Braveheart’ project will be based in the centre from the 12th April, 6.00pm - 8.30pm until the end of the year. They will be available to carry out health checks which identify an individuals blood pressure, cholesterol levels, height, weight and give one to one health advice.

February 26th 2007:
We are running a Smoking Cessation Class on Tuesdays until 27.3.07 from 2.00 - 3.00pm.

Work on our Open Play Area started on Monday 26th February and will have a ten week completion time.   This work is funded by North Lanarkshire Council and the Big Lottery Fund.

October 2nd 2006:
Welcome to our new staff member Brian Smith who is starting up our new BeFriending in Bellshill Project .
